Hybrid propulsion combines an internal-combustion engine with an electric machine. The electric drive unit relieves the load on the combustion engine particularly in situations in- volving above-average fuel consumption such as driving off or accelerating. It helps to cut down fuel consumption and CO2 output especially in urban traffic. Pollutant emissions are thus reduced.
