The BAS PLUS und PRE-SAFE® brake functions have been expanded to include pedestrian recognition. In addition, the autonomous braking in reaction to the vehicle in front has been significantly improved. Combining data from the exterior cameras and radar sensors enables the recognition of pedestrians in front of the vehicle. Upon identifying the danger, a visual and acoustic warning is triggered. If the driver reacts by braking, BAS PLUS automatically reinforces the braking pressure according to the situation at hand, even applying the brakes at full power if necessary. If the driver fails to react, then the PRE-SAFE® brake autonomously brakes the vehicle.
