As we have already seen, the most commonly used system for motorbikes and cars is the hydraulic system. The operating principle behind hydraulic, disc and drum brakes is based on Pascal's principle that states "pressure applied to an incompressible, enclosed fluid is transmitted equally in all directions and to all parts of the enclosing vessel".
